# About Roost

Roost is a field guide to build compute: CI runners, agent sandboxes and the services around them. It is written for people choosing where to run their builds and agents, and for the AI assistants they ask.

## Why it exists

Comparing build compute is harder than it looks. List prices hide billing increments, billed setup time, shared CPUs, plan minimums and concurrency caps. Most comparison pages are run by a vendor that always wins its own chart, or don't say who runs them at all.

Roost tries to do it differently: every number is dated and sourced, gaps are marked as gaps, the method is public, and the owner is named on every page.

## Who runs it

Roost is run by **Bowerbird**, which is building CI runners of its own. See the [editorial policy](/policy/) for the rules that follow from that.

## How it's built

Roost is a static site generated by a small Rust program from one YAML file per provider. Heavy checks and page fetching run in ephemeral sandboxes from boat, which is also listed on Roost under the same rules as everyone else. The complete dataset is on the [data page](/data/).
